Bull shark diving in Playa del Carmen

Every winter, female bull sharks gather off Playa del Carmen. From late November to early March, certified divers can see them a few minutes by boat from the beach. It is one of the few places in the world where this encounter is this accessible.

Observation or attraction

The observation dive lets you watch the sharks in their natural environment, at their pace, without interfering. The attraction dive brings them closer, with feeding run by experienced guides while divers stay on the sand. Both are led by guides who know these animals well.

Why a reef dive first

Before the sharks, we ask for a reef dive so the team can see you dive: buoyancy, calm, air consumption. Our Bull shark season package builds this in on day one, then adds Cozumel and the cenotes.

Questions

Is bull shark diving dangerous?

The dives follow a strict protocol: divers stay together on the sand, guides manage the sharks, and only certified divers with experience take part. Each diver receives an SOS Saving Our Sharks bracelet, in support of their protection.

Can I see bull sharks in summer?

No. They are only here from late November to early March. The rest of the year, choose the reef, Cozumel and the cenotes.
